Doreen Schachtschabel is Senior Vice President of R&D at BASF’s Agricultural Division, where she leads a global team focused on developing innovative Seeds and Traits for field crops across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her work aims to create sustainable agricultural solutions that help growers to feed and clothe the world.
Previously, she directed Industrial Biotech at BASF, enhancing biotechnological manufacturing processes at scale with renewable and recycled feedstocks for feed, food and daily consumer goods. Doreen holds a PhD in Chemical Ecology and Chemistry from the University of Jena and the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Ecology Jena. Currently based in Gent, she has extensive experience in translating academic concepts into scalable solutions while navigating complex regulatory frameworks. She is committed to identifying integrated, transdisciplinary solutions that align with economic realities while also aiming for essential systemic changes to serve the environment, farmers, and society.
